Going forward~ January to June

Going into 2025 had its challenges.

We started off in January taking on a new gate for Guard 1 Services.

The gate was an easy one and we found a new friend. His name was Lewie. Lewie was a fun buddy. He loves steak! He was not crazy about chicken and HATES vegetables! He started hanging out and after some research we decided he needed to stay. So steak and raw hamburger was on the menu daily. Roadrunners love to eat rattlesnakes! So they are great to keep around in South Texas. Check out this video of why we called him Lewie the killer of Cotulla. HERE

January also brought us much sadness. We lost Princess. Please see her memorial HERE . She passed peacefully in daddy’s arms.

Our understanding is South Texas does not get ice storms. Well this year we did. Here are some photos of the Beast, paddle cactus, and trees coated in an ice from the storm.

February brought a new adventure. We packed up and headed for West Texas. We were offered a 12 hour gate about an hour south of Midland, TX. When they say the wind always blows in West TX they are not kidding! Hot or cold the wind blows! Here are a few photos of our experiences here.

March we made 2 very big decisions all in one day! (both had been discussed for several weeks) We picked up both in one day though. Meet Lucile (Lucy) and Marco!

Lonestar Animal Rescue, Midland, TX

Lucile is a 2016 Chevy Traverse. After much research we came to the choice of the Traverse as it had the least amount of mechanical issues in the 2016 model. Lots of room for hauling groceries to animals on the farm.

Marco got to take his first car ride with us in it. To say the least he was not a fan. I doubt he ever had been in a car other than to be taken to the pound. To see his back story please see his blog HERE.

We have been working mostly 7 days a week on our normal shift and covering for other guards that needed some time off. In May we went to San Antonio, TX to celebrate me not being called “Double Nickels” anymore. We celebrated my 56th Birthday by getting a hotel and one night of downtime. Marco did so much better on the car ride to and from. He has had enough experience in rides now and the medications from the vet helped a lot! He was a very good boy at the hotel and everyone loved seeing him. We discovered just how much he does not like water structures though.

At the Tower of the Americas, as I was trying to walk him up the ramp near one of the main fountains he freaked out and wiggled out of his harness. Brian walked to him and calmingly called him. We are so thankful that he did not run off. Black dog dark area and lots of scary people… that would have been bad news!

Like I said, Marco did great on the ride home. Here is a picture of how well it went.

So for now we are back at our gate and getting ready to count down the days til our vacation time. (working vacation time) We will have lots to share in the coming months and with some help from the internet gods I will be able to write about it more.
