Tranquil Desert Homesteading: Natural Timelessness

Daily writing prompt
Which activities make you lose track of time?

We get the truck loaded and set out shortly after a full breakfast of ham, eggs, bagels. We have about a 45 minute beautiful desert drive to get out to the property. The air is so fresh. Especially after a good rain. This is the first part that lures us in. The earthy nature smells of the high desert.

We start digging out the tools we will need for the day. Usually the trimmer, shovel and pick axe. The sage brush removal goes pretty fast. The cleaning it up takes a lot longer as we grab bundles of it and carry it off to a line.

We take an afternoon break of some kind of snack we picked up at the farmers market or a pbj from home. Talk about our plans for the new homestead. We can easily get lost in that venture. Where to put the buildings, home, animal barns, gardens and garage.

Watching the wild life, rabbits, coyotes, birds and fun little lizards. Surrounded by nature and the perfect stillness. No sound at all sometimes.

Coming out here is like walking into a casino. No bell, lights and whistles. Just time submerged in beauty. We easily get lost in the time we are out here.

Before ya know it, a storm as started to roll in and its time to go. We laugh about how the time went so fast. I hope the time we are away goes just as fast. I can’t wait to get back home.
