Our special family foods for the holidays

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

During our family’s special holiday gatherings, we always make sure to include some of our favorite traditional dishes.

One of these is the unique and delicious frog eye salad. This sweet and tangy dessert salad is made with acini di pepe pasta, pineapple, mandarin oranges, marshmallows, and a creamy custard-like dressing.

It’s a refreshing addition to the holiday spread and always a hit with both kids and adults.

Another must-have treat is the rich and indulgent fudge. We make it with chocolate, butter, condensed milk, and vanilla extract, resulting in a smooth and velvety texture that simply melts in your mouth. I have made the microwave version for almost 4 decades!

Lastly, we can’t forget about the comforting and hearty knephla soup. Brians mom made it a family tradition for Christmas eve.

This traditional German soup is made with tender dumplings, potatoes, onions, and sour cream.

Its warm and comforting flavors are the perfect remedy for cold winter nights. We find it to be best served the 2nd day. All of the flavors marry and make a very thick soup.

These dishes have become cherished traditions in our family, bringing joy and warmth to our holiday celebrations.
