Settling Into Routine

December 29, 2022

Life’s got us spinning in different shifts these days—me rocking the 2nd shift and Brian owning the overnight 3rd shift. It’s a bit of a juggling act, but we’re determined to nail down some kind of routine. Coffee is his old friend and a bottle of Pepsi is mine. Post-shift catch-ups are sacred. Even though our schedules are all over the place, finding those pockets of routine a midst the chaos is the goal. Here’s to hoping we’ll figure it out and still have time for some streaming shows binging in between!

Lately, my kitchen has turned into an Instant Pot haven! I’ve been whipping up all sorts of warming soups—perfect for both lazy home dinners and packed work lunches. The beauty of tossing everything into that magical pot and letting it do its thing is just too easy. Let’s not forget about the homemade bread. There’s something incredibly satisfying about the aroma of fresh bread. Eating at home is saving the money we are trying to keep in our savings for the homestead. Dinners out are kept to Saturday nights.

When class was over not as many classmates were still with us. Life happens. Some had to bail halfway through – family emergencies and health issues were the main reasons. Pat and Michael, my adopted boys away from home are still here. t We’ve become this tight-knit family. And because I’m all about spreading the love, I whip up cookies every week, ensuring Brian gets his share, and, of course, Pat and Michael too. It’s like our sweet little shift-family tradition. Gotta keep the cookie love alive!

As we approach New Year’s Eve, it’s truly remarkable to reflect on how swiftly this year has passed. The passage of time often seems to accelerate as we near the end of the year, bringing an opportunity for introspection and anticipation for the year ahead. It’s a time to cherish the memories made and the milestones achieved, while also looking forward to new beginnings and opportunities. The countdown to the year-end serves as a reminder to celebrate the journey we’ve experienced, and to embrace the potential for growth and joy in the upcoming year.
